It has been a busy time for our researchers here at Sunfish Lake with activities happening daily now between all the various teams and lots of interesting learning about our lake.

The good news is that it appears that our “good” green algae is keeping the “bad” blue-green algae or cyanobacteria in-check and levels remain safe for swimming though still above drinking water guidelines in places.

It seems that the dense layer of planktothrix cyanobacteria at the 8.0m depth is dying off as a dense layer of diatoms and green chlorophyll are turning the lake its usual/seasonal pea soup green at the 4.0m level and above.
